Please Help to Support Sok Yi's Education
Sok
Yi, SRENG was born on 28 July 2000 in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. She is
the only daughter among the other three sons in the family who graduated from high
school since 2018. Her parents are rice farmers. Her father studied only in grade 5 and
her mother was in grade 7. Her older brother (21) studied until grade 8, he stopped studying and is currently working as a construction worker in his
hometown. Her younger brother (17) stopped studying when he was in grade 7 and
currently works in Phnom Penh City. Her youngest brother (14) is currently in grade 7 and, from time to time, he wants to stop studying to earn money to support his
family.
Her family does not have money to send her to continue higher education in Phnom
Penh. Her mother wants her to continue while her father always disagrees. Her
father thinks he does not have money to support her until she finishes her
bachelor's degree as she will need to spend a lot of money. Additionally, he is
very concerned about her safety as she has never lived far away from home and
he himself has never lived in Phnom Penh City. Her mother works very hard in
the rice field and she could not earn much money to give her children good food and
education. She wishes to see her daughter having a good future
and live a better life than her.
Sok
Yi dreams to earn a bachelor's degree, have a good job to support her family and
support her youngest brother to continue studying. She graduated her high
school since 2018 with grade E but she did not have the opportunity to continue to
university. She did not have anyone to guide her on how to study and live in Phnom
Penh. She works as a garment worker near her hometown since she graduated from
high school. She hopes to save money from her work to pay for school tuition.
As her family is always in need of money, from time to time, she could not save
enough for her school.
She
had planned to save money for a year school tuition and work for a part-time job in Phnom Penh to support her living cost and save for the second
year tuition.

If she works to support
her living cost and tuition, she has to earn at least USD 229 per month. The
job markets for students are very competitive and only she works for full-time
staff, she could earn this amount of money. Generally, working at the grocery,
supper market or coffee shops, students can earn around USD 120 to USD 200 per
month. However, the job is required to work for 8 or 10 hours per day and working
until Saturday.
