Visiting Phu Quoc Island (Koh Tral)

Image
I traveled to Phu Quoc Island with my family during year-end 2018. We bought round trip ticket, Phnom Penh-Phu Quoc, from Champa Mekong Express and it cost USD 52 for a person. It took around 3 hours and 30 minutes to travel from Phnom Penh to Prek Chak International Border Check Point and Ha Tien Border Crossing (Cambodian-Vietnamese border). The express company had a guide to assist us to get our passport stamped for both Cambodian and Vietnamese border crossing authorities. It took us around 2 hours to wait for passport crossing border permission and walk from Cambodia to Vietnamese territory. When we received our passports from the guide, a van picked us up and brought us to Ha Tien Ferry Terminal, around 15 minutes from Ha Tien crossing border. We then took the boat to Ham Ninh Ferry Terminal, Phu Quoc (around 1 hour 20 minutes). Ho Quoc Pagoda We booked a guesthouse online via booking.com and our booking place was very convenient. We had only one full da

NGOs’ Registration and Operation in Cambodia

Image
The Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) began operating in the early 1990s, after Cambodia signed the Paris Peace Agreements to end the civil war. The very first NGOs established in Cambodia were the International Rescue Committee, Médecins Sans Frontières and Oxfam GB. The NGO aids can be directly received from the government of China, Japan, the United States, Germany or South Korea and European countries.  To run an NGO effectively and smoothly, the NGOs need cooperation from government officials at all levels to get the work done in the provinces, so while there may be some jockeying for advantage, the relationships are often mutually supportive, as in the case of the Kampong Speu Governor’s office and the NGOs working on sanitation projects. According to the Cooperation Committee for Cambodia in its 2010 Review of the NGO Sector in Cambodia, 72 percent of NGOs in Cambodia are local and 28 percent are international NGOs. There are  about 3500 registered NGOs in Cambodia.

Being Same-Sex Couples in Cambodia

Image
There is only one happiness in this life, to love and to be loved. There is no right and wrong to love and be loved by someone from same or different sex. Same-sex marriage has been accepted and recognized by 26 countries in the world, started from Netherlands in 2000 and latest recognition in 2017 were Germany, Malta and Australia. Same-sex marriage is invalid in Cambodia. The Cambodian Constitution recognizes a marriage only between one husband and one wife. Although the late King Norodom Sihanouk had supported same sex relationship in 2004 via his public speech, there is no any law, policy or action taken to support same-sex couples until now. As resulted, the couples from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer group (LGBT) have not been protected by Cambodian law. Same-sex couples are human, so their rights are inherent and shall be protected from any abuse or infringement. Seeing the discrimination and violation against LGBT groups from time to time, the U
